How to set up the card swipe and take payments
The following instructions take you through how to set up the card swiper. In order for the card swiper to work you will require a laptop with a USB port, up-to-date browser, and a strong internet connection.
1. Turn on the card swipe for events you wish to take card swipe payment for
The first step is to turn on the card swipe for the events you wish to sell tickets for. To do this:
- Sign in to the Vanco Events portal
- Under Manage Events Overview, click on the name of your event
- Down the bottom of the left menu, within the Other menu item, click on Quicksale
- Tick the Enable Card Swipe checkbox. Additionally, if you do not wish to collect personal information from ticket buyers on checkbox, ticket the Enable Quicksales checkbox
- Press Save
- Repeat for other events
2. Plug the card swipe into your computer
The card swiper has a USB connecter, simply plug this into your computer. The card swiper will not work with adaptors (i.e. USB-C or a lightning adaptor). You'll require one card swipe per computer you are using to sell tickets.
You have now set up and connected your card swiper, it's time to start selling tickets.
3. Take payments
Now that you've set up the card swiper, you can start selling tickets. It's important that you are signed into the Vanco Events portal in order to sell tickets, otherwise the card swipe will not show up on the checkout page.
- Go to the landing page for your event (Hint: Here's an article on how to find your event URL)
- Continue through the booking process, selecting the tickets you wish to sell to the ticket buyer
- On the checkout page. Enter the booking details (if you have not enabled Quicksale)
- Click on the Click to enable card reader button, this will activate the card reader. This button will only appear if you are signed into the Vanco Events portal, so it will be hidden if you are a ticket buyer purchasing tickets online
- The button will now say Ready for card swipe
- Swipe the card, wait until you see the Success message on the button. This means that the card was successfully read by the swiper
- You do not need to enter anything into the Manual entry fields, these fields are used in the case that the card swiper does not return a Success message
- Click the Purchase button to process the sale
- On the order confirmation page, click on the name of the event in order to start a new sale
How to manually enter card details
In the case that the card swiper does not work, you are able to enter the card details manually. Simply enter the card number in the Manual enter - credit card number field and the expiry date in the Manual enter- credit card expiry field and press Purchase.
